714 Area Code: Orange County's Original Number

714 is one of the original 1947 area codes and once covered nearly all of Southern California outside Los Angeles proper, before decades of splits narrowed it to North and Central Orange County.

History & Coverage

714 originally covered a massive region including San Diego and Orange County. As the population grew, 619, 949, and 657 split off, leaving 714 concentrated on Anaheim, Santa Ana, and North Orange County.
